Norths closed the day on 4/177 off 34 overs after dismissing the Bulls for 134.
Norths skipper Lincoln Mills said Jenkinson's aggressive hitting at the end gave the side real impetus going into Saturday's day two to push ahead and make quick runs and try to bowl the Bulls out for a second time.
"We've gone from being really satisfied with first innings points to being able to look seriously at pushing for an outright," Mills said.
Cal Gabriel resumes on 36 not out and looked in impressive form, only shadowed by Jenkinson's late big hitting.
The young Bulls were the own worst enemy, dropping several chances including three sitters as Mills and opening partner Michael Wilson chanced their arm on a pitch which was holding up.
"If they take myself and Mike Wilson early and we're 2-20 instead of 0-70-plus and it could have been a completely different game.
"We gave them plenty of chances."
In contrast Ben Sugden took two gems in the gully for Norths.
Mills led the bowling with 4-21 and Jenkinson picked up 3-41.
He saved a special mention for the young Bulls attack who continued to press on despite the disappointing effort to back them up in the field.
"They are a young team and they will take a lot out of it hopefully. Hopefully not next week," Mills said.
"They've got a good young team. If they can hold on to Alex Lidbury, Syd Searle and Ryan Wind and build and develop them they are going to be strong for a number of years."
In other games Kurri Weston collected first innings points posting 6/118 after dismissing Thornton for 117.
However, the Warriors will be without skipper Steve Abel who injured his hamstring in Sunday's Hunter Valley Cup game also against Thornton.
Johno Gabriel top scored for Thornton with 57 and Nick Bourke added a valuable 21 at No.10 after the Thunder were 9/88.
Nick Neild took 5-26 and Abel (2-17) and Jack Sylvester (2-36) both picked up two wickets.
An important knock of 75 by Eastern Suburbs' Lachie Wishart has left the Griffins evenly poised against Western Suburbs at Coronation Oval.
Wishart and Riley Horrocks (32) combined in a 77-run partnership which helped Easts to be all out for 224 in the 72 over.
After scoring a valuable 16, Nick Rinkin backed up to dismiss Sam Collison to leave the Plovers at 1/12 at stumps.
Play on day one between Raymond Terrace and City United was washed out at Jack Collins Oval.
