To mark the occasion, Maitland City Council has a special exhibition planned of Maitland Mayoral Dress through the years.
Maitland Libraries Local Studies team has been working with the Australian Museum of Clothing and Textiles on the project which had to be put on hold due to the pandemic.
It is now likely to be showcased early next year.
However during the week of the 75th anniversary, council will run a number of social media posts to acknowledge the milestone.
On Wednesday, July 5, 1944 the Municipality of Maitland was formed following the amalgamation of the West Maitland, East Maitland and Morpeth municipalities and some parts of Bolwarra, Tarro and Kearsley shires.
A report presented to this week's council meeting said the new municipality covered an area of about 47 square kilometres and had a population of 22,000 residents.
The amalgamation paved the way for Maitland to be declared a city.
The City of Maitland was formed with a council of 16 aldermen and the first Mayor was Mr A. S. McDonald.
