The woman, who cannot be identified, gave evidence during the second day of Mr Hayne's rape trial in Newcastle District Court on Tuesday, telling the jury the pair had struck up a flirtatious relationship on social media before arranging to meet at her house at Fletcher on the night of the 2018 NRL grand final.

But about 20 minutes after Mr Hayne, now 32, had jumped back into a taxi bound for Sydney, the woman sent him a message saying: "I'm hurting so much".

"I sent that message because he had wanted to kiss and touch me and I knew he'd had a taxi waiting outside for 20 minutes and I didn't want to," the woman said during her evidence on Tuesday.

"I said no, he pushed my face down and pulled my clothes off and I'm not sure whether he bit me or cut me or whatever the hell he did but I was saying 'don't, no I don't want to'. Then I was bleeding everywhere."

Mr Hayne has pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual intercourse without consent and inflict actual bodily harm.

During his opening address, defence barrister Phillip Boulten, SC, said there were two sides to what happened in the woman's bedroom.

"He is not guilty of either of the two charges," Mr Boulten said of Mr Hayne. "What happened in that bedroom was entirely consensual. The complainant consented to what happened even after she became unhappy about the taxi being present. She was quite prepared to engage in sexual activity with Jarryd Hayne."

Mr Boulten said the woman's injuries had been inflicted "accidentally".

During his opening address, Crown prosecutor Brian Costello told the jury Mr Hayne had been at a two-day bucks party in Newcastle on the weekend of the alleged sexual assault and had taken a taxi to the woman's house about 9pm on September 30, 2018.

He told the taxi driver to wait outside, knocked on the door and went straight into the alleged victim's bedroom, Mr Costello said.

Over the next 45 minutes, before Mr Hayne got back in the taxi and headed home to Sydney, he is accused of "forcefully" kissing the woman on her bed, taking off her pants and engaging in two sexual acts that left blood on her bed and Mr Hayne's face, Mr Costello told the jury.

Mr Costello said crucial evidence in the trial will include text message exchanges between the woman and Mr Hayne and the woman and her friend in the aftermath of the alleged sexual assault.

"I am hurting so much," the woman texted Mr Hayne.

"I know I have talked about sex and stuff so much but I didn't want to do that after knowing the taxi was waiting for you. I thought you would have at least stayed. I'm hurting really badly.

"I told my mum you got a nose bleed. But I am sitting in my room crying because I feel so weird."

Mr Hayne is alleged to have replied: "Go doctor tomorrow".

The woman also texted her friend, saying Mr Hayne had been "really pushy".

"Like he wanted to have sex and I kept saying no," she wrote. "I didn't want to do it, but I said stop and stuff but then I kind of let it go because he was so into it and pushy. I feel like I let it happen to myself by not screaming at him."

The woman suffered injuries to her genitalia, which a specialist doctor would opine were unlikely to have resulted solely from oral sex.

Mr Costello said an investigation included police tapping Mr Hayne's phone and recording a conversation he had with another NRL player when Mr Hayne said he told the girl "my fingernail just must have clipped you".

Mr Costello said there would be no dispute that sexual activity between Mr Hayne and the woman occurred, with the focus of the trial being on whether the woman had consented and Mr Hayne's state of mind.

In relation to that, the woman said she told Mr Hayne "no" three or four times as he tried to kiss and touch her and said at that point she thought he was a "sleaze" who was only interested in sex.

"[I was thinking] there was no way in hell [I was going to have sex with him]," she said. "I wasn't going to touch him. I was angry. I was hurt. I was sad.

"I felt like absolute shit about him getting the taxi driver to wait outside for that amount of time because he is coming over to have sex and leave.

"He doesn't want to meet me or get to know me."
