Chasing Norths' impressive 5/256, Thornton were guided home by Nicholas Bourke (7 not out) and Brent Dawes (13 not out) posting 7/257 for their most important win of the season to date.
There was no shortage of outstanding performances with Norths' Callum Gabriel making 114 and Michael Wilson 80 in a 177-run partnership after skipper Lincoln Mills was out for a duck.
Matt Sugden finished unbeaten on 23 off 16 balls and Ben Sugden made a- run-a-ball 18 to push Norths' total beyond 250.
Elliott Thompson was outstanding with the ball taking 4-54 off his 10 overs, with Jake Reeves taking 1-31 off nine.
Thornton's top three all fired with the bat. Jake Reeves made 66 off 68, Johno Gabriel 53 of 53 and Jake Moore 50 off 91 got the Thunder on the front foot and they were able to maintain pace with the big target.
Peter Gabriel made an important 32 off 25 balls before being run out.
Cal Gabriel was the best with the ball for Norths taking 2-44 off his 10 overs.
Francis tears through Plovers
City United spinner Todd Francis continued his outstanding season with a superb 5-9 off 10 overs to tear through the Western Suburbs batting line up at Coronation Oval on Saturday.
Wests were all out for 128 in the 44th over and City made 4/129 off just 24.1 overs in reply.
Francis secured his third five-wicket haul of the season to take his wicket tally from five games to 20.
His haul on Saturday followed 5-58 in City's outright win against Kurri Weston last round and 7-33 against Raymond Terrace in round four.
Kurri Weston bounce back
Kurri Weston produced a fine team performance to secure a 17-run win against Tenambit Morpeth Bulls at Morpeth Oval on Saturday.
Warriors skipper Steve Abel led the way with an important 33 with the bat and 3-27 off his 10 overs showing he had recovered well from a hamstring injury last month.
Kurri Weston made 9/211 from their 50 overs. Tyler Power top scored with 44 not out, Ben Herring 41, Liam Neild 24 and Liam Dalibozek 21.
The Bulls teenage pace attack was again outstanding with Sidney Searle taking 4-38 and Alex Lidbury 3-59.
Several Tenambit batsmen made starts but couldn't complete the job with the Bulls dismissed for 194 in the 48th over.
Skipper Adam Sidoti made 46, Liam McMahon 41 and Tallon Gear 37.
Warriors paceman Cameron Bates finished with 4-53 and Ben Herring a super-economical 1-21 from his 10 overs.
The win lifts the Warriors back into the top four.
Page and Brooks lead Terrace win
Teenage bowlers Lachlan Page and Brayden Brooks led Raymond Terrace to victory against Eastern Suburbs at Jack Collins Oval on Saturday.
Page finished with 3-19 and Brooks 3-30 as Easters were dismissed for 152 after being 2-85.
Terrace chased down the target with six overs to spare.
