The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a wet week with ahead in Maitland with predictions for showers above 60 per cent until Saturday.

According to the forecast, Tuesday has a 60 per cent chance of rain with anywhere between one to five millimetres predicted.

While Wednesday will see 80 per cent of showers with five to 15 millimetres of rainfall predicted on the forecast, and Thursday will bring with it a 60 per cent chance of showers.

On Monday, the State Emergency Service issued a warning for possible flooding for Hunter District Rivers.

The service said the catchments likely to be affected by minor flooding include the Paterson and Williams River.

"Rainfall associated with a low pressure trough has the potential to cause minor riverine flooding across the Paterson and Williams River catchments from late Monday," the warning read.

"A low pressure trough lies through inland NSW with a humid easterly airstream across northeast NSW.

"Heavy rainfall with, and ahead of, this trough is expected to impact Mid North Coast and Hunter Districts bringing river level rises from Monday. Catchments likely to be affected by flooding are currently saturated following rainfall over the last week or so.

"The weather system is expected to cause riverine flooding for the catchments listed from late Monday. Flood Classes (minor, moderate, major) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service."

The emergency service reminded people sever drive, walk or play in flood waters and to monitor flood warnings.
