Maitland have bowed out of the 2020-21 John Bull Shield competition after an inspired bowling performance by Upper Hunter at Lorn Park on Sunday. After posting 143, Upper Hunter struck early and regularly to dismiss Maitland for just 71 off 25 overs. Hayden Quinlaven led the way in a man of the match performance for Upper Hunter top scoring with 37 and picking up 3-14 in a superb 10 over spell. The chief destroyer with the ball was Lachy Cheshire who took 4-19 despite leaving his spikes at home thinking he would be just fielding as 12th man. Matthew Wicks picked up 2-10 and Josh Cooper 1-22 in an opening spell which left Maitland reeling at 3-18 from which they were unable to recover. Sam Dalibozek top scored with 18 and skipper Ricky Dent was the only other batsmen to make double figures with 11. Maitland needed to win against Upper Hunter to make the competition final and would have felt confident after dismissing the visitors for 143. Harry King wrapped up the tail finishing with 4-38. Brayden Brooks was the pick of the Maitland bowlers taking 2-11 from 10 economical and probing overs.
