More than 1700 Ausgrid customers in Maitland's west have been without power
Power has finally been restored to about 1700 Ausgrid customers.
Ausgrid reported the outage on its website about 4.30pm on Tuesday (January 26).
Homes in the Aberglasslyn, Rutherford, Rosebrook, Melville, Hillsborough, Maitland Vale and Oakhampton areas lost power about 4.20pm.
Ausgrid has reported an estimated restore time of 6.30pm.
BLACKOUT: Some of the areas in the city's west that had lost power.
The cause of the outage is currently under investigation.
An emergency crew worked into the evening to safely restore power.
The outage came on one of the hottest days this season with temperatures in the city's west sitting on 37.4 degrees at the time of the power failure.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a cool change to hit Maitland later tonight.
