McInnes went down during a training run on Friday, the club confirming the injury in a statement.
"The 27-year-old is yet to undergo follow up consultations to establish the next steps in his recovery and return to play timeframe," it read.
McInnes had only last week signed a deal with Cronulla, as the Dragons continue their pursuit of hooker Andrew McCullough, who was released from the Broncos on Thursday.
"I want the club to be successful on the field so if Andrew McCullough was to come I think he'd add a lot to the team with his experience and toughness," McInnes said when addressing his deal with Cronulla.
