A SINGLETON early childhood teacher has said she "fell apart" when she noticed a small white paw hanging from the undercarriage of her car after a 22-kilometre drive along the Hunter Expressway.

Lorelei Wainiqolo had pulled over around 25 minutes into her journey, at times travelling at speeds up to 100km/h, after hearing a yelp coming from inside the engine.
When she got out to investigate, she was horrified to find the beloved family pup, Diesel, had become trapped under the car. "I was completely shattered. I thought he was dead," she said. "I think the worst thing was I'd driven that far without realising what had happened."
Firefighters from Branxton rushed to help, and worked for around 30 minutes to free Diesel - an 18-month-old Jack Russell - through the wheel arch. He was lucky to escape with only a minor burn, firefighters said.
Ms Wainiqolo said Diesel was so happy to see everyone, "he's larger than life, he loves everybody."
