The Maitland Pickers have had their scheduled first grade for a trial match against North Tamworth called off this weekend. The reserve grade (2pm), under-19 (12.40pm) and under-17 (11.20am) trials against South Newcastle at Maitland will go ahead as scheduled on Sunday. "It's disappointing, it was a road trip we were looking forward to," coach Matt Lantry said. "It means we'll just have the one trial game before the season proper against Wyong on Sunday week, but I still think we'll be okay. "We went in to camp two weeks ago at the NSW Mines and rescuie site at Singleton and that was great and we've also done a lot of full contact work at training. We even managed to do a bit of dragon boat rowing which was good fun." Lantry said there would be no late additions to the squad. Meanwhile Cessnock have made a couple of key acquisitions picking up highly rated brothers, Jerome and Denzel Burns from the Ipswich Jets in the Queensland Cup.
NO GAME: The Pickers top grade will go into the new season with just one trial match after the scheduled North Tamworth game was called off.
