Rotary International is one of oldest and largest service organisations in the world with more than a million members in 33,000 Rotary Clubs in 200 countries.
There are five local Rotary clubs in Maitland - Maitland, East Maitland, Rutherford/Telarah, Maitland Sunrise and Greenhills-Maitland.
They've united to celebrate the service club's centenary with the eye-catching banners, displays at four local libraries and the Maitland Regional art gallery and a giant logo stenciled on lawns near the Maitland Tourist Information centre.
Mayor of Maitland, Loretta Baker said after so many years of service to the city, council was happy to help Rotary with a $5,000 grant for community activities over two weekends.
This Sunday (April 11) from 10am to 3pm at Maitland Regional Athletics Centre, a Centenary Baton Relay will see each of the five local Rotary clubs complete 100 laps of the track with their friends, families and supporters.
The community is invited to be involved in the event - there will be Rotary food trucks and a coffee van with free kids entertainment on the day, including a jumping castle, face painting and giant games.
The day will also offer an opportunity to talk to Rotary members about the current projects the service club is involved with.
On Sunday, April 18 at Telarah Lagoon, 100 Rotarians will plant 100 trees to celebrate the 100 Years of Service. This starts at 10am and there will be a street eats event starting at 11am, hosted by Maitland Council.
Area Governor Christine Walmsley said Rotary was grateful to the council for the grant to help celebrate the milestone.
