Rotary International is one of oldest and largest service organisations in the world with more than a million members in 33,000 Rotary Clubs in 200 countries.
There are five local Rotary clubs in Maitland - Maitland, East Maitland, Rutherford/Telarah, Maitland Sunrise and Greenhills-Maitland.
They've united to celebrate the service club's centenary with the eye-catching banners, displays at four local libraries and the Maitland Regional art gallery and a giant logo stenciled on lawns near the Maitland Tourist Information centre.
On Sunday April 11, Rotarians and their supporters from across the district gathered to celebrate with a baton relay at the Maitland Regional athletics centre.
Each of the five clubs in the Maitland area took part by completing 100 laps of the centre.
"We walked and wheeled around the track, catching up with friends and family and sharing a laugh or two," said president of East Maitland Rotary Glenda Briggs.
This Sunday, April 18, Rotarians from the local clubs will continue the celebrations, this time by planting 100 trees for 100 years around Telarah Lagoon. The mass planting will add to the trees, many of which were planted by the Maitland Rotary Club.
Maitland City Council assisted the community celebrations with a $5000 grant.
