A petition with more than 2100 signatures demanding upgrades to a "dangerous stretch of road" in Heddon Greta has been noted by Cessnock City Council.

Late last month, Cessnock City councillors supported the motion which will see the general manager write to the Secretary of Transport for NSW to provide a copy of the petition and request representatives of Transport for NSW to meet with the petition organiser.
The petition, tabled by resident Jessica Caldwell, reads "since the opening of the Hunter Expressway and the continual development of the Kurri Kurri-Maitland corridor, no infrastructure improvements have been made to Maitland Road and many streets have been significantly degraded.
"We should be able to enter our suburb safely and travel on roads without extensive potholes and damage. We should be able to cross Main Road safely at a set of traffic lights," it read.
Ms Caldwell said it wasn't just Main Road which needed improvements but surrounding roads including Stanford Street and Young Street.
"The conditions are so bad that they pose a serious safety risk to residents," she said at the meeting.
She urged the council to fix the roads before it released anymore housing development lots.
Speaking to the Advertiser, Ms Caldwell said "It's good that its on the record but I don't feel we really got an outcome from the council meeting.
"I have a meeting coming up with the general manager in June but that's a month and a half from the meeting," she added.
The petition has garnered 2125 signatures.
Heddon-Greta Action Group, who have been lobbying for safety improvements, member Steve Gilbey added there was still plenty of work to be done.
"We are still waiting for a strategic plan for Heddon-Greta and Cliffleigh which is overdue," he said.
"We've been able to pin down the three levels of government to get some action.
"The roads are deteriorating and we also don't have any commitments for maintenance of the roads."
