Oakhampton Road is currently closed to through traffic due to the formation of a sinkhole over Hunter Valley Flood Mitigation Scheme drainage infrastructure approximately 250m north of Scobies Lane.
A Maitland City Council spokesperson said a specialised liner is to be installed to the internal wall of a segment of the existing pipe to maintain pipeline integrity.
The liner is coming from Germany, and is expected to take eight weeks.
The road will continue to be closed to traffic by NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment until further notice, and will only be reopened once it is deemed safe for road users.
Hunter Valley Flood Mitigation Scheme officers will be managing the completion of the works. For questions about the works contact 4927 3155 or by email at info.hvfms@environment.nsw.gov.au
