Nitroglycerine was second last week at Maitland to Impress Shades, which then overcame a check on the first turn to win impressively over 520m at Wentworth Park on Saturday night. Impress Shades came from Victoria and has won all three starts for his new trainer.
"It was offered to Jason [Mackay], but he was full up and I had a spare kennel, so he said, 'why don't you take it?'" Flanagan said.
"With Jason's help as well, he's starting to fire and it was a tough win last night.
"I don't know how far he'll get but there's still a few more races in him yet."
Nitroglycerine (box two) faces a tough task against More Sauce (one) in race three (450m) on Monday.
"He's up against a handy one but he's going to run his 25.10 I think, so we'll see what happens. The red will be hard to beat but mine should be first or second," Flanagan said.
He believed his other runner, Stay Strong, should win the eighth, which will be her first attempt at 450m.
At The Gardens on Saturday night, trainers Lisa Hutton and Chris and Sarah Kedwell had winning doubles.
Swan Bay trainer Allan Ivers had two wins at Muswellbrook.
