NRMA's Peter Khory said Maitland's prices are tracking the same as Sydney's at that's on the way down, albeit slowly.
"Maitland prices are in line with that," he said. "Sydney prices have fallen from 151 for regular unleaded two weeks ago to 144."
Asked about neighbouring Cessnock's prices being about 20c a litre cheaper, Mr Khory said it's not uncommon for regional towns, even just 20 kilometres away, to have significant price gaps.
He said Parkes and Forbes in the State's central west have similar price differences.
He said these were all regulated by the service station franchisees.
"Every town is effectively it's own market," Mr Khory said. "Local service stations have the control."
"But right now Sydney, Newcastle, the Central Coast and Maitland are tracking on the same trajectory and for the next week or so prices should continue to fall."
