The Storm's Origin brigade, apart from concussed prop Christian Welch, lined up after Wednesday's opening battle to outclass the Warriors and leap above Penrith on points differential to take top spot for the first time this season.

Blues winger Josh Addo-Carr and Queensland hooker Harry Grant were among the tryscorers, while five-eighth Cameron Munster was busy as the defending premiers booked their 11th successive victory.

Kiwi Test rake Brandon Smith was also among their best, scoring a first-half try as he burrowed over the line.

He almost made it a double minutes later but for a heavy hit by halfback Chanel Harris-Tevita, which jolted the ball free.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, their playmaker was forced off soon after with a pec injury suffered in the collision with coach Nathan Brown saying it looked his season could be over.

Storm coach Craig Bellamy said he was blessed to have Grant and Smith working in tandem at dummy-half.

"I thought both of them were outstanding," Bellamy said.

"They are both doing a great job for us. It's a nice little issue to have when they're both out there playing together, when one is playing the ball and there's another dummy-half to work off that.

"It's a big effort from Harry as he hadn't played in five weeks and then played in Origin and then backed up."

Melbourne were in full control by halftime, up 18-2, and it took until the 61st minute for the Warriors to get across the tryline through winger Ken Maumalo.

Maumalo, who announced on Saturday he would join Wests Tigers and was a late call-up for the game, ended his time with the club with a hat-trick and was embraced in emotional scenes by his teammates.

The Warriors could at least enjoy return of powerhouse prop Addin Fonua-Blake, who hadn't played since a round-four knee injury.

But he could do little to stem the tide of Storm tries, with the visitors finishing with seven for the afternoon.

A sour note for the Storm was Munster put on report for kicking Roger Tuivasa-Sheck late in the first half.

It was Munster's second similar incident this week after he was fined for an infringement in State of Origin I and Bellamy wasn't pleased.

"I need to have another look at it but it wasn't the smartest thing, if that's what he's done ... you can't do that," he said.

"He needs to cut it out of his game."
