Lisa Cochrane capped off another solid performance in the midfield with a rare goal of her own, much to the delight of coach Keelan Hamilton and her teammates.
"I though Lisa Cochrane in midfield was quite disciplined," Hamilton said. "She just did her role solidly and capped it off with a goal as well. She's not a regular goal scorer so it was great for her to get one.
"I also thought our striker Bronte Peel was very, very strong. She got a hat-trick, but the way she brought others into the game was really impressive.
"Ainsley our other midfielder got a hat-trick as well. A lot of those were off Bronte holding the ball up and bringing Ainsley into the game which was good."
Maitland started strongly and had four goals on the board within the first 20 minutes.
However, New Lambton struck back twice in almost identical fashion with a free kick rebounding off the crossbar and the ball finding the back of the net in a scramble.
"We talked prior to the game about starting strongly and I think we did that very well," Hamilton said.
"We let them back into the game slightly just at the back end of the first half. I don't think it was too much our fault, probably more moreso two pretty decent free kicks to them.
"The second half was a really professional performance, we didn't allow them into the game."
Hamilton said there were areas where the team could still improve, particularly in defence.
"I was a little bit disappointed with our defensive stuff. I thought we left the game a bit stretched particularly in the first half, but as I said to the girls at half-time the front third stuff is coming along nicely.
"We were combining well, we were not just crossing the ball in aimlessly. We were trying to link up with each other.
"On another day we could have had another two or three goals.
"It was a really positive performance overall."
The Magpies' next game is against Mid Coast FC at Taree on Sunday, July 11
