The event is being coordinated by the student support officers at Cessnock, Mount View, Kurri Kurri, Rutherford and Maitland high schools, but is open to students from any school.
Cessnock High School SSO Stacy Jacobs said the idea of the event is to ease the burden on local families after what has been a tough few years.
"Drought, fires and COVID have all had an impact on our students and their families," Ms Jacobs said.
"School formals are a rite of passage. Being able to participate is so important for everyone. This event allows everyone have the option to attend.
"And a lot of kids are trying to get into the workforce and apprenticeships, but workwear can be expensive."
Donations of new or used-but-excellent condition formal wear (including dresses, suits and accessories), interview wear and work attire can be dropped at any of the participating schools until Friday.
The event will run from 9am to 12pm Saturday.
A free bus will run from Maitland train station at 10am. Any students wishing to travel on the bus can RSVP with their student support officer.
