The state-wide COVID-19 lockdown has meant Brown Street resident Rob has been spending a lot more time in his backyard.
It was while working in the backyard last week that he spied what he first thought was the glimmer of a bottle cap in a patch of dirt in the grass.
It turned out to be a gold wedding band dating back to 1989
"I pulled it out and found an engraved men's wedding ring," said Rob.
"It has an inscription [two names and a date] engraved inside. It was encased in dirt so I think it has been here for a long time."
Rob said he asked the neighbours either side of his rental property whether they knew who it could have belonged to but had no luck.
"I've only been here 18 months or so. I asked the neighbours but no one else has been around long enough to know who the two people might be," he said.
"Not knowing how long it has been lost for also makes it difficult to find the owner. It would be nice to have a good outcome and reunite it with its owner."
If you think the ring is yours or know who it could belong to get in touch with the Examiner.
Details will be sought about the names and date inscribed on the ring to confirm identity.
