With the looming start to junior competitions, the Maitland District Junior Cricket Association has urged parent to register their youngsters to play as soon as possible.

Maitland District Junior Cricket Association president Chris Walker said clubs had been asked to nominate their teams by Wednesday, October 13, so an accurate indication of numbers taking part was important for spots in teams can be found for all children.
Once again the Maitland junior cricket will feature weekly competitions from under-10 to under-16 and Junior Blasters (5-7) and Master Blasters (7-10) for the youngest cricketers.
For the first time the Girls Sixers League will be held on Thursday afternoon from early November. The stage one and two competition starts on November 11 and will run for six week.
The program is for girls two age brackets 10-13 and 13-16 to compete against each other in T-16 to T-20 games.
Walker said the bottom line this season was that there was a game for every child.
"We urge parents to register their children from five to 16 as soon as possible and remind them that Active Kids voucher for summer are available," Walker said.
"Quite a few of the clubs that is their only fee. They assume if you've got the Active Kids voucher the registration will be $100 so it's effectively net zero to the parent."
Walker said as double vaccination did not apply to children, junior cricket would be in a position to return on October 30 at this stage.
However, double vaccinations will be required for coaches and volunteers at training as well as all adults attending matches.
"The worst case scenario is we will be starting on November 6, but the best case scenario is that we will be starting on the last weekend of October," Walker said.
"We are still waiting on clarification from Cricket NSW, but we do believe that coaches, volunteers, groundsmen, managers, canteen people will have to have the double vaccination in order to volunteer."
