Clubs across the district have thrown their support behind the Girls Sixers League and have been advertising for prospective players on their social media platforms.

Many of the established players will come from within clubs junior ranks with more and more clubs featuring female players in Saturday morning competitions.

A number of players have graduated from the junior ranks and are playing in the grades. Maitland's most famous graduate to senior ranks is Maisy Gibson, who played for NSW and now for Tasmania and the Hobart Hurricanes in the WBBL after becoming the first woman to play first grade cricket in Maitland.

Maitland District Junior Cricket Association president Chris Walker said the Girls Sixers League stage one and two competition starts on November 11 and will run for six week.

"Cricket NSW calls it stage one and stage two and essentially the age groups are pretty loose," Walker said.

"Stage one is essentially for beginners and stage two is for the more advanced girls who have played cricket in the past.

"I'd imagine it is going to work out to be 10 to 13 years old and 13 to 16 years old.

"There will be flexibility, for example if we had a really good 12-year-old we could put them into the higher grade and if we had a beginner 14-year-old we could put those into that stage one group as well."

Walker said it was a quick, short season running six weeks into Christmas with a real emphasis on fun.

"We are trying to create a bit of a carnival atmosphere and have it all based at Maitland Park or at the Cricketers Park below the hospital," he said.

"It will be a shorter format, T16 to T20 games, so it should only take about 90 minutes to two hours to get through. We're definitely trying to make it as enticing and attractive for young girls to come along this year."

All participants aged 16 and over will need to be double vaccinated.
