Formerly known as the pound, the facility has been upgraded to receive and house all lost companion animals impounded by council rangers.
Maitland Council's contract with the RSPCA has ended, and they will no longer be taking impounded animals for Council.
The RSPCA in Rutherford is still open and operating as an animal shelter.

The new facility is located at 11 Metford Road, East Maitland and is available by appointment only, during specific hours.
- Monday to Friday 10.00am to 4.00pm
- Saturday and Sunday 10.00am to 12.00pm (Midday)
- Public Holidays 10.00 to 12.00pm (Midday)
Council advises residents to contact their Customer Experience team on 02 4934 9700 if they have lost their pet or found an animal without owner contact details.
All companion animals impounded by Council Rangers will be taken to this facility.
The Maitland Animal Management Facility is being run by non-profit organisation Central Coast Animal Care Facility (CCACF) on behalf of Maitland City Council.
CCACF specialise in animal welfare and are dedicated to saving and rehoming animals, as well as running impounding facilities.
