Kambosos says he should be afforded a ticker-tape parade down Sydney's George Street when he returns home triumphant from his lightweight unification bout with Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden on Sunday week.

Lopez (16-0, 12KO) already held the IBF strap before upsetting Ukrainian Vasyly Lomachenko in Las Vegas last October to take the WBA, WBO and The Ring lightweight belts.

Lopez's tussle with Kambosos (19-0, 10KO) will be the 24-year-old American's first defence.

But the looming blockbuster hasn't drawn the same attention in Australia as Tszyu's sold-out super-welterweight showdown with Takeshi Inoue on Wednesday night, or many other fights Down Under this year.

His eyes only on the prizes, Kambosos couldn't care less.

"It doesn't really bother me, to be honest. I've got a massive social media presence. The American media is on top of me like crazy," Kambosos told AAP on Friday.

"Just today I've had seven American mainstream interviews so they love me over here.

"Whatever craziness is in Australia, I know that the real fans and real supporters and everyone you ask and talk to over there are going crazy for the real fight and the real championship fight, which is Kambosos fighting Teafimo Lopez.

"It's for the undisputed championship, all the belts are on the line and it's never been done in Australian boxing.

"This is real fighting. Not a gimmick."

Exactly like Tszyu before his fellow Sydneysider beat Inoue this week, Kambosos enters his 20th professional fight with a 19-0 record.

Despite earning a crack at four world title belts at once before Tszyu has been able to lock in his first, the 28-year-old hasn't received as much recognition in Australia largely because he hasn't fought at home since 2017.

"I'm just focused on my job. The media (spotlight) will come and go.," Kambosos said.

"It's an opportunity to win these belts next weekend. It might never come again.

"And I believe I'm fully ready and prepared and I'm not concerned about everything else.

"Wherever I go, I get stopped and every single person wants to talk to me and take photos. So I'm a massive name in Australia as well."

He'll be even bigger if he conquers Lopez, Kambosos saying he'll need a ticker-tape parade if he wins.

"We're gonna have to. I've got some really good friends that are quite high up in the business and then they are good friends with some politicians in Sydney and obviously NSW," he said.

"They said, 'Mate, you win this fight and we're going to put a bronze statue of you in Sydney. That's how big this victory will be.

"It's all exciting. It's all there. I've just got to do my business next weekend, which I will."
