Maitland City Council said the lights would be turned on just before sunset and shut down at 10.30pm.
Coordinator city and visitor economy Porta Wendt said the community had wanted the river crossing to be a centrepiece of their celebrations.
"The Morpeth community have told us they wanted the much celebrated bridge lit up so it can be enjoyed as a centrepiece of the township when the sun goes down," she said. "We're thrilled to bring this project to life."
The bridge lighting is one of three projects, including a shared path on Steamer Street and a riverside promenade from Robert Street to Illalung Park, to mark the occasion.
