Ms Aitchison said Gillieston Heights is one of the fastest-growing areas in Maitland yet its primary school is suffering serious neglect at the hands of the current Government.
"Gillieston Public School is under significant pressure due to the rapidly growing housing developments. The Liberals and Nationals must make upgrades a priority," Ms Aitchison said.
"It's simply not good enough that over 260 local Maitland children are learning in a school with only two permanent buildings," Ms Aitchison said.
"I have been campaigning for many years for the NSW Government to take urgent action to upgrade the school. When I was first elected in 2015, there was still a dirt floor in the boys' ablutions block, and the school is still not connected to town sewer. It's simply unacceptable."
"Students and teachers deserve to be learning and teaching in 21st century permanent, flexible and innovative learning spaces," she said.
"While the Education Minister has been making promising statements I want to ensure action is taken," Ms Aitchison said.
