John Partridge was presented with the certificate from RSL Australia on Friday, December 3 at his home.

The award was presented by Maitland RSL Sub-Branch president, Fred Goode OAM, and secretary, Graham Solomons, in the company of Mr Partridge's wife, Daphne.

Mr Partridge, who is 98, said he loves the Maitland RSL branch and the people in it.

"It's a wonderful club," he said.

Mr Goode and Mr Solomons were very proud of their long time friend and peer's great achievement, fondly recalling memories such as when Mr Partridge let the now president Mr Goode into the doors of the RSL back in the day.

Mr Solomons also had fond memories of the Partridge family to share as he went to school with Mr Partridge's son, Robert and said they would often ride a makeshift skateboard - which had no breaks - down the street near Mr Partridge's home.

Mrs Partridge was very proud of her husband's achievement, and said their favourite thing to do as a couple has always been dancing, no matter the style - they could even dance the jitterbug.

In 1942 Mr Partridge joined the RSL, and served four years overseas during World War II, including 18 months in Papua New Guinea.

During his 75 years at the RSL, Mr Partridge has been active on the committee, the board of directors and the bowls team, with whom he won championships with.

Mr Goode said it is a great achievement to present Mr Partridge with his 75 year certificate.

"It's something I don't think we'll see again in our day, people don't join as early as he did anymore," he said.

Mr Goode said he encourages all veterans to join the branch.

Mr Solomons said Mr Partridge still comes to ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day services whenever he can, and is still a strong supporter of the branch.

Mr Partridge said he is looked after marvelously by his wife Daphne, and their children Robert and Vicki.
