The Hunter region's leading trainer says there's already been plenty of interest in relation to The 715, a new $500,000 to-the-winner event which was unveiled by Greyhound Racing NSW last week.
"We've had a few calls about it already, as soon as it was announced. We'll have something in it," Mackay said.
Cool Bourbski, which won Mackay's third Newcastle Cup on Friday night, is one of those possibilities for the inaugural title in June having just picked up a hometown feature and recently breaking the track record over the same 715 metre distance.
"It's probably too far away to go thinking that," Mackay said.
"It will probably be her last campaign that race Cool Bourbski, she'll be getting a bit long in the tooth by then.
"So if she's firing and going real good, no injuries and all the blood profiles are good then we'll have a crack at it, but if not you can't be going into those races guessing or you get your bum kicked."
Mackay, who has 36 kennels at home in Richmond Vale, reckons The 715 participants "will come from everywhere" for a crack at the lucrative prize and crowds could "pack the joint".
"That is huge. It's great for our industry, super for our area and big for the town," he said.
