The Great Couch Sleepout will be held on April 20, which is Youth Homelessness Matters Day.
Participants are encouraged to sleep on their couch for one night to highlight the prevalence of couching surfing among homeless young people, and to use their social media platforms to help educate friends and family about youth homelessness in Australia.
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, nearly 42,000 young people across Australia experienced or were at risk of homelessness last year - although the sector accepts that this figure is underestimated.
Couch surfing is one of the most common - and least visible - forms of homelessness for young people in Australia.
Youth off the Streets' Hunter Valley Outreach program manager Kim Lenard is taking part in the Great Couch Sleepout, and said it is a chance to say "enough is enough".
"Young people experiencing homelessness in regional Australia face different challenges than those in urban areas," Ms Lenard said.
"With limited support services and a lack of transportation options, it's incredibly hard for young people to find a job or housing.
"Couch-surfing is a common form of homelessness - but it's often hidden from sight.
"Youth Off The Streets is doing everything we can to support young people in the Hunter region.
"Still, we need the help of everyday Australians to spread awareness of how serious the issue is and call on the government to listen.
"The Great Couch Sleepout on April 20 - Youth Homelessness Matters Day - is a chance to say 'enough is enough' and and take a stand against youth homelessness in our community."
