The men take on third-placed Broadmeadow Magic on Saturday in their toughest test of the season to date, while on Sunday the women face Adamstown who have two wins and two losses.
The Magpies NLPW side have three wins from three games with their washed out round three fixture against equal-top Broadmeadow rescheduled to Monday, June 13.
Adamstown have 9-0 and 8-0 wins against New Lambton and Mid Coast respectively but 5-2 losses against Broadmeadow and Charlestown Azzurri.
Maitland are coming off a 3-2 win against Azzurri and should have the firepower and defence to beat Adamstown.
"It was a cracking game, open, free-flowing and a really physical encounter with some brilliant football," Magpies coach David Walker said of his team's effort against Azzurri
"It was exciting to be part of.
"They're ticking the boxes in each game. The improvements from game to game have been noticeable."
The Magpies NLPM team are coming off a hard-fought 2-1 win against Weston in the El Clasicoal derby. Their midweek catch-up game against Valentine was washed out and rescheduled until Wednesday, May 11.
"It's Massive game for us on Saturday. We've built up a pretty good rivalry with Broadmeadow Magic dating back to our days in second division together," Magpies assistant coach Gavin Wolfe said. "Glad to be home and hoping to get a big crowd up there."
Wolfe said an extended break had worked in the team's favour with Sean Pratt recovered from bone bruising he played with against Weston and a couple of players coming out of COVID isolation as close contacts.
"We played well against Weston. The most pleasing thing is that we have conceded only one goal. Our back four have been really strong for us," he said.
"There's an old saying that defence wins competition and we are very much focused on minimising those goal opportunities for our opponents and then counting on the likes of Braedyn and Jimmy in the front-third to score goals for us."
The Magpies host University of Newcastle in round four of the Australia Cup on Tuesday, April 26, from 7pm.
"We talked about the Australia Cup at the start of the season and we really want to go as far as we did a couple of years back when we had the game against Central Coast Mariners and the Maitland Sportsground," Wolfe said.
