Friday night games have been introduced to the 2013 Hunter District Bowling Association pennants draw in the No.1 Grade.
East Maitland and East Cessnock will trial the change in rounds three and six of the season, which begins on February 23.
Pennant matches across the district are traditionally played on a Saturday afternoon but East Maitland skipper Clay Parker said he welcomed the idea.
“I wouldn’t mind if they were all Friday night games,” Parker said.
“It would give you Saturday off and it could bring the blokes in your club closer together.
“Rather than all playing at the same time – all the lower grade players could watch the A-grade play on Friday night and the A-grade players could support the lower grades on a Saturday.”
The first of these Friday night fixtures will be played at East Maitland Bowling Club on March 8 while the deed will be reciprocated at East Cessnock Bowling Club on April 5.
The district has given the green light to Friday night fixtures but any changes to the draw must be agreed to by both clubs involved and approved by the governing body before the start of play.
Kurri Kurri and Maitland City round out the clubs playing in the top grade of district pennants and all participating teams have experienced Friday night encounters previously as part of the Invitational Big Bowls Challenge.
