Beresfield juniors have capped off an impressive debut season in Zone League 3 with grand final glory.
Beresfield won the 2013 decider in a dramatic penalty shootout at Cooks Square Park on Saturday defeating Hunter Simba 9-8 after the score remained 0-all at the end of regular and extra time.
“It was fairly hectic at the end there,” Beresfield manager Glenn Neal said.
“Especially after we missed our first penalty and then our second only to have it recalled because the keeper moved off the line.
“Our goalkeeper then saved their fifth shot to keep it going.
“It went one-for-one for a while before we scored our ninth and our keeper saved theirs.”
The major crown will sit alongside the minor premiership won by Beresfield this year, which has earned them promotion to Zone League 2 next year.
Together with their reserve grade team Beresfield also won the Zone League 3 club championship this season.
Beresfield reserves weren’t as fortunate in their grand final, also held at Cooks Square Park on Saturday, going down to Hunter Simba 7-6 in a penalty shootout after the game had finished at 2-all.
Beresfield will collect their silverware from 2013 at the association presentation on Friday night.
The club will conduct their own awards ceremonies the following day with juniors at Tarro Recreation Area from 10am while the seniors will gather at Beresfield Bowling Club from 6.30pm.
In the women’s Zone League grand final Kurri accounted for Thornton 3-2 while University beat Merewether 2-0 in reserve grade.
