The program will address a gap in local treatment options, providing psychological, motivational and dietetic therapy as well as lifestyle and occupational support.
Hunter New England Health Eating Disorders co-ordinator Melissa Hart said the 10-week program would provide treatment for up to eight adults at Fletcher House, Newcastle.
“Patients will benefit from individual case management and will be provided with three to four meals a day, which aims to normalise eating,” Ms Hart said. “This is such an exciting time for Hunter New England Health and a real step forward for patients, families and clinicians.”
The program forms part of the NSW government’s Service Plan for People with Eating Disorders launched in September.
“It’s essential that services focused on prevention, early intervention and recovery are accessible to people, regardless of where they live,” Ms Hart said.
Planning for the program was expected to begin by the end of the year.
