Leanne Hill was walking along Denton Park Drive about 6.20am yesterday when the unleashed German shepherd ran toward them and attacked the restrained Doberman cross Rottweiler.
Ms Hill said Diesel did not fight back so the German shepherd soon lost interest and turned on her and a man she was walking with.
“In those two seconds I thought, ‘oh my god, you read about this sort of thing but you don’t think it’s going to happen to you’,” she said.
“I was screaming.
“We’ve been walking there for 12 months and nothing like this has even happened before.
“It bit our dog and he has a tear inside his back leg, but he didn’t require vet treatment.”
The man kicked the dog away a number of times before the German shepherd’s owner arrived.
Ms Hill said the owner told them she had unleashed her dog so it could chase a ball she had thrown.
“It was such a good walking track, but we won’t go that way again,” Ms Hill said.
“Kids catch the bus along Denton Park Drive . . . it could have been a lot worse.”
Dog owners in NSW are legally required to keep their canines on a lead at all times in public places such as parks, shopping centres or in the street, unless otherwise specified.
