Written and produced by Hunter locals Arjay Martin and Raghu Peddu, the movie –Neighbourhood: The Movie – has been described as a blend of paranormal, suspense and mystery.
“The film revolves around the life of a loving couple, Jack and Lexi Carter, who discover they are pregnant,” Mr Martin said.
Soon after, Jack is murdered and Lexi’s ex-boyfriend also suffers a mysterious death.
“The townsfolk, the neighbourhood, blame Lexi for the deaths and there is also a ghost who seems determined to make Lexi’s life miserable,” Mr Martin said.
Then paranormal behaviour sinks in.
“We’ve decided to use Maitland and Morpeth for the film because they are both really beautiful locations with lovely, historic backgrounds, but we also think it’s nice to promote the local area,” Mr Martin said.
“There is so much talent here, but most of the time people have to travel to Sydney to make any breaks into the film industry.”
The cast and crew have also turned to crowd funding to help raise money for the movie, to be filmed later this year.
