The Cooks Hill man will share his expertise with Maitland Business Chamber members this morning to help them be the best possible bosses.
“Generally, the first feedback I get is hands over faces [because] when I give a talk I profile the room as well,” he said.
The Telecom worker turned face reader started honing his special skill as service technician dealing with unhappy customers. Now he’s a consultant to businesses.
“If you are an [effective] manager, research has shown that people are 36 per cent more productive when they are happy,” Mr Stevens said.
He’s worked with Paul Ekman, consultant to the hit TV series Lie to Me, to hone his skills, as well as leaders in the field of body language.
From time to time he speaks at functions, which usually triggers a rash of questions once the shields come down.
“Quite often people ask me if there is the potential to manipulate people with this and I say most of life is manipulation,” Mr Stevens said.
“It’s really the intent behind using these skills that is the difference.”
