Council officers will inspect fences around pools at tourist and visitor accommodation properties, including motels, hotels, bed and breakfasts, and other properties that have two or more dwellings.
Development and environment manager David Simm said council would contact as many property owners as possible to notify them of the inspections.
“Owners and managers of these properties should ensure that their swimming pool is registered on the Division of Local Government Swimming Pool Register and has a pool barrier that is compliant with the relevant legislation and Australian Standards,” Mr Simm said.
Residential property owners who have swimming pools will be required to have mandatory pool barrier inspections as of April 29 next year, if the property is being sold or leased.
Property owners unsure if their pool fence complies can request an inspection from council. Fees apply for inspections.
Register swimming pools online at swimmingpoolregister.nsw.
gov.au or at the council’s administration building in High Street.
Property owners and managers can phone Ian Cunningham at council on 4934 9700 for more information about the inspections.
