Eschebach qualified for the semi-final in the 133rd edition of Australia’s oldest sprinting race after finishing third in his heat on Saturday afternoon with an adjusted time of 12.66 seconds.
He will line up off seven metres at 1.05pm in the fifth of sixth semi-final, with the winner of each semi-final progressing through to the final at 2.45pm.
Largs twins Jack and Tom Newman also lined up in the Stawell Gift heats on Saturday but failed to qualify for the semi-finals, finishing sixth in separate heats with adjusted times of 13.13 and 13.21 seconds respectively.
In the State of Victoria Women’s Gift over 120 metres on Saturday, East Maitland sprinter Kara Bull finished sixth in her heat with an adjusted time of 14.46 seconds.
Bull also competed in the 400m Women’s Handicap yesterday, finishing third in her heat with a time of 54.9 seconds which wasn’t enough for her to qualify for the final.
Eschebach began the weekend with qualification for the semi-finals of the 70m handicap, winning his heat with an adjusted time of 7.69 seconds off 7.5 metres, but failed to progress past the semi-finals held yesterday.
Jack Newman also lined up in the 70m sprint, but missed qualification into the semi-finals after recording an adjusted time of 7.99 seconds.
