Operation Go-Slow began at 12.01am and will run until 11.59pm on Sunday.
The operation is the final part of a two-week holiday initiative to keep NSW roads safe during the Easter and Anzac Day periods.
Police will also target fatigue, drug-driving and drink-driving as well as mobile phone use.
The Maitland region fared well during the Easter long-weekend, during Operation Tortoise, with no road fatalities or major crashes during the blitz.
Traffic and highway patrol commander Assistant Commissioner John Hartley said drivers needed to be well prepared and be patient in traffic, especially if they were travelling on Sunday, the final day of school holidays.
“Motorists need to plan their journey, ensuring they leave plenty of travel time to get to their destination, and take adequate rest breaks,” he said.
“They also need to wear seatbelts and go slow, ensure they are not speeding and not under the influence.
“Drivers need to share the road.
“We do not want a repeat of last year where five people tragically died on NSW roads during the Anzac Day long weekend.”
