Maitland station will act as the hub for those services, instead of High Street, which will again be closed this year. Residents who would usually use that station are urged to use Maitland station and local buses.
“Extra trains will run from Newcastle to get fans to Maitland Showground, where the gates will open at 10.30am,” a Transport Management Centre spokeswoman said.
Trains on the Hunter Line will stop at all stations except High Street, which will be closed from 8am Saturday to 6am Sunday.
“For those coming from Sydney and the Central Coast, extra trains will leave Central at 7.14am, 8.10am and 9.10am,” the spokeswoman said.
Extra trains back to Central will depart Newcastle at 9.37pm, 10.30pm, 11.21pm and 12.30am.
Special event buses will also be running on demand from Newcastle and Broadmeadow train stations to get fans to the festival.
