Taylor won the women’s 45-plus years cruisers at Shepparton earlier this month after the Maitland-Tenambit BMX Club rider broke through for her maiden crown in Brisbane last year.
It came as a bit of a surprise for Taylor, who only decided to ride at the 2014 Australian BMX Championships at the last minute.
“I wasn’t going to ride at all,” she said.
“I had a crash mid-September and picked up a few injuries, including a frozen shoulder, so I hadn’t been back on the bike long before hand.”
Taylor, also a former Australian touch football representative, won all three of her races to finish on top of the point score at nationals.
Fellow Maitland-Tenambit BMX Club rider Tom Hubert made the men’s elite final and finished seventh after knocking out Australian Olympian Luke Madill in the preliminary rounds.
There were 20-plus riders from Maitland-Tenambit BMX Club at nationals with many making their debut at that level in sprockets.
There were 110 riders in the 5-to-7 years category with 1362 participants overall across 54 events.
