Dressed as doctors and nurses, a motocross champion, Transformer, Angry Bird and a mad hatter, students took part in the Adidas School Fun Run to raise money for the primary school on Tuesday.
Teacher Glen Rooke said the run, with the theme My Hero, was an excellent platform to get students excited about physical activity.
“It’s just a fun day aimed at raising funds at the school for educational and sporting resources,” Mr Rooke said.
“St Paul’s Primary School, Rutherford, is setting the standard for other schools to follow by choosing a way to raise money that delivers positive messages about the importance of physical activity to children’s health, growth and development.
“I am very proud of the students for getting involved.”
Mr Rooke said it is not yet known how much was raised as donations continue to trickle in.
The Adidas School Fun Run was launched in 2011 as an alternative to junk food fund-raising.
In three years, the event has helped schools raise more than $9.1 million to buy computers, books, sporting equipment and other resources.
With the added option of online fund-raising, students can now reach family and friends interstate or overseas, which saw schools increase their overall profit by 16.4 per cent in 2013.
A further $230,000 has been donated in school grants by program partner, CUA, through its Community Care initiative – an extension to the Adidas School Fun Run.
