The Bureau of Meteorology’s forecast for Maitland today and tomorrow was for a possible shower becoming mostly sunny on Wednesday, with temperatures then of 19 degrees during the day.
But the minimum will drop to 6 degrees tomorrow and 4 degrees on Wednesday.
There is a 50 per cent chance of rain today, with about 1mm expected, a 90 per cent chance of rain tomorrow with 1.5mm expected and a 30 per cent chance fo rain forecast for Wednesday.
WeatherWatch meteorologist Don White said sea conditions had been dangerous yesterday.
“There was a significant swell along the coast with fairly big waves, from Newcastle to Port Stephens and Seal Rocks,” Mr White said.
“The swell through the day was about five metres, but this would have fallen back to about 2m to 3m during the night and will be back to 2.5m on Monday.
“By Monday the seas could still be rough, but experienced surfers should be OK.”
The news was not much better for snow lovers, after the earlier falls at Barrington Tops.
“There has been a bit of a dusting, but there is no more snow due and what was there has gone,” Mr White said.
“It looks as if we are in for a period of settled weather, but some quite chilly nights.
“However, by the end of the week, temperatures will be a bit milder, perhaps in the high teens.”
Mr White’s forecast tied in strongly with a Bureau of Meteorology warning about dangerous surf conditions along the NSW coast.
The Bureau expected the dangerous conditions to ease in northern NSW late yesterday, but remain strong in the southern part of the state.
Skippers and owners of small craft were warned to be on high alert and to check conditions before considering crossing a coastal bar or heading offshore.
