Hunter Valley Men’s Crisis Support provides temporarily homeless men accommodation and counts on people’s generosity to meet costs.
“Men tend to get lost in the system,” trivia MC and Maitland Comedy Club promoter John Buck said.
“I’m old enough now to have seen that men do fall on tough times if they lose their job or their marriage breaks down so the night is about helping them.”
The trivia night is a joint effort between HVMCS, Maitland Comedy Club and staff at Woolworths Petrol Green Hills.
“We believe it’s a very important cause as there are very few charities out there to help men,” Woolworths team member Reanna Cunningham said.
“Men seem to be overlooked and this charity being local made us even more eager to help.
“We are a very close team and we love helping the community and we saw this as a great way to do so.”
The trivia night starts 7pm on Saturday night at Telarah Bowling Club.
Tickets are $10 each of $75 for a table of eight.
In addition to the trivia there will be raffles and a silent auction with a prize pool worth more than $2500.
The prize pool includes a signed, authenticated Newcastle Knigths jersey as part of a 250-unit release.
Hunter Valley Men’s Crisis founder Cr Philip Penfold said trivia nights took a lot to organise and praised the team’s effort.
“I think it’s marvellous that these individual’s have come together to help this charity and those men in need,” he said.
The organising team, which includes Bradley Sleep, Heidi Clarke, Brendan Masterson and Lynne Crebert hopes to raise more than $4000.
