Police alleged the indecent assaults happened between 1971 and 1972. Detectives from Central Hunter and also from Lake Macquarie Local Area Commands attended Surry Hills Police Station in Sydney on Tuesday.
“Police spoke there to a 66-year-old man about alleged offences against a boy,” Central Hunter crime manager, Detective Inspector John Zdrilic said on Thursday.
The 66-year-old man was charged with three indecent assaults on a male.
“He was given strict conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, August 14 this year and he was required to surrender his passport.”
Police investigations began in March, last year, when detectives from Strike Force Georgiana received information about an alleged indecent assault involving a child.
“We treat alleged crimes that happened years ago just as importantly as incidents that have happened recently,” Inspector Zdrilic said.
“We encourage any victim of any indecent or sexual assault to come forward, no matter how long ago these things allegedly happened.”
