The game was transferred to Ashtonfield from the Maitland Sportsground after rain and the Pickers’ first grade game made the sportsground unplayable.
Maitland led 12-6 at half-time but a second half blitz saw the Pickers run out 44-point winners.
Sidelined Pickers captain and dual Australian representative Bec Young said some choice words at the break was the catalyst for the improved second half.
“We weren’t playing really well in the first half and (coach) Mick (Young) gave them a bit of a revving at half-time,” she said.
“The girls came back out and smashed it, Doonside had a few injuries as well which didn’t help them.
“Just our go forward wasn’t right, there was heaps of space on the field and the girls just thought they could throw it around.
“We weren’t sticking to our game plan or our structure but then we went back to that and it paid off.”
Hooker Mel Howard was the star for Maitland with four tries.
Maitland will now host Redfern on Saturday where a win would see them jump to outright second on the table.
