The Colts scraped home 20-18 in the final game of the regular season after the scores were locked at 18-all at Greta Central Oval.
Centre Hayden Crouch was taken out after putting in a kick, with Greta Branxton awarded a penalty where the ball landed 30 metres out and to the right of the posts.
Patten stepped up and won the game for the Colts to break Scone hearts.
Greta Branxton coach Ron Griffiths said he was pleased with his team’s effort in ruining Scone’s run at a perfect season.
“It was a very physical game, I think players from both teams walked away pretty exhausted,” he said.
“I know when they [Scone] left the field they looked exhausted and when I spoke to their coach after the game you could see the pain on his face.
“It would have been a fantastic achievement for them but we managed to rain on their parade.”
Greta Branxton jumped out to an early 8-0 lead but trailed 10-8 at the break after the unbeaten Thoroughbreds fought back.
The Colts will now have the week off before meeting Scone in the major semi-final at Scone Park on August 17.
Greta Branxton’s under 18s and reserve grade teams play Singleton and Murrurundi respectively this weekend at Olympic Park, Muswellbrook in the minor semi-finals.
