The festival will be opened with the new Australian comedy The Infinite Man, which will have a “green carpet” reception.
The mind-bending movie is about a scientist who invents time travel so that he can have a second attempt at a successful anniversary with his girlfriend.
A highlight of the program is the Australian animation Maya The Bee Movie, which has Richard Roxburgh, Jacki Weaver and Noah Taylor in its voice cast.
There will also be the new film from much-loved French auteur and Amelie director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, The Young and Prodigious TS Spivet, starring Helena Bonham Carter and Judy Davis.
The three-day film program is a cross-section of Australian and international films, from shorts, to features and documentaries.
Most screenings will be in the historic James Theatre.
Upper Hunter MP George Souris congratulated organisers on the festival’s program.
“The NSW government, through our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, is proud to support the Dungog Festival,” Mr Souris said.
“The three-day program of Australian and international films, cultural events, food and wine will be a huge drawcard for visitors to the festival, which is expected to attract close to 3000 visitors and bring an estimated $1 million in visitor expenditure to the local economy this year.”
Other inclusions on the film program is the Nick Cave documentary 20,000 Days on Earth, and Mike Myers-directed documentary Supermensch about music industry legend Shep Gordon.
Flight of the Conchords fans should check out its producers’ new mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows, about a group of suburban vampires in a share house.
The Dungog Festival runs from August 28 to August 31.
