The legendary Australian band were last in the Hunter when they supported Elvis Costello for A Day on the Green in 2012.
Forming in Sydney in 1980, The Sunnyboys have been enjoying a resurgence in popularity as a new generation discovers their influential post-punk, power pop sound.
The debut Sunnyboys, on Mushroom records in 1981, is regarded as one of the great Australian albums.
The band first broke up in 1984 due to internal conflict and frontman Jeremy Oxley's battle with mental illness.
Guitarist Richard Burgman went on to join The Saints and Weddings Parties Anything.
The band reappeared in various forms in the ensuing years, but it was the invitation from the Hoodoo Gurus for the original Sunnboys line-up to appear at their Dig It Up festival in 2012 that cemented their live return.
The original foursome of Jeremy and Peter Oxley, Burgman and drummer Bill Bilson will be on stage at Newcastle Panthers on Friday, October 10.
Tickets are on sale this Friday through Moshtix.
