Mackay will have Zipping Willow and Zipping Summah contesting the 515 metre $40,000-to-the-winner race at The Gardens but said the field was wide open.
“I think it’s the best Black Top ever,” Mackay told Greyhounds NSW.
“There’s nothing between the whole eight of them.”
Zipping Willow (29.44 seconds) will go in as the clear favourite and a heat winner despite being eclipsed by Miner’s Moss as the fastest qualifier.
The group 3 Ladies Bracelet winner has strung together nine consecutive victories for an impressive career record of 28 wins from 40 starts.
However, with the likes of Push It and Rose Of Galo in the running Mackay said the result was far from a foregone conclusion.
“I wouldn’t say it’s just about stopping Zipping Willow,” the 2013 Metropolitan trainer premiership winner said.
“There was not a lot between any of those greyhounds in those heats.”
Zipping Willow will have box five, one outside kennel mate Zipping Summah.
Miner’s Moss has the seven, Rose Of Gal eight and Push It the inside.
The final jumps at 9.40pm.
Closer to home and Maitland Greyhound Club will have a 10-race meeting this evening, which includes 400 and 450 metre finals and four heats of the Father’s Day Gift.
Club sponsorship and promotions manger Fred Robertson said La Grand Logie (race five, number one) was his best bet of the day.
First race goes at 4.02pm.
